Young shots

A great sport for young people

Clay pigeon shooting is a great activity for young people. It’s testing. rewarding and exciting, and requires a cool head and self-discipline. It’s very important to start with learning the basic skills to build a foundation from which to improve. Once the basics have sorted, young people can often move to master shooting very quickly.

Young shots often benefit from great hand eye co-ordination

What ages can participate?

Age is a factor, but we also need we to consider size and strength. Anyone interested in getting started will need to have enough upper body strength to handle the gun safely and effectively. Small guns are better for young shots, and we recommend a 28 bore cut down to size as a ‘starter gun’. We hold one at the school for use for those wanting to take their first steps into the sport. Another option is the 410 as its very light – however it’s quite limited in use and very testing to shoot consistently.

Taking these into account, we recommend that 10 to 12 years can be a good time to start in the sport provided the size and strength is sufficient. Hand eye co-ordination is often at its best in the earlier years, so it’s a great time to get the basic skills in place.

We have special pricing for young shots. Gift vouchers can be a good present for that tricky to buy for youngster in your life too!
